About us

Endodontic residents

The Department of Endodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University carries a long tradition of excellence in specialty education and patient care.

Our faculty participate in the training of predoctoral dental students in the area of clinical endodontics. After an introduction to the specialty in their first year, students learn and develop didactic and treatment skills during preclinical classes and labs in the second year. Advanced topics and clinical techniques are stressed in the third year which allows patient treatment during the third and fourth years. In the fourth year, students are prepared for dental board examinations and are given the opportunity to treat a variety of clinical cases in both the School of Dentistry and off-site service learning clinics.

The department's 24-month advanced specialty education program prepares clinical specialists in endodontics who have extensive expertise and knowledge in the basic sciences, oral pathology and in the human body as a whole wihch they can then utilize in the provision of exemplary endodontic dental care.

Six members of the Department of Endodontics faculty are Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics and have extensive experience in the private practice setting. Our adjunct and affiliate faculty are experienced local practitioners who share their time and talents to mentor our dental students and residents.
